Rags to Riches is in stock.
"It was absolutely a spectacular race. We couldn't script one any better than that," says D. Wayne Lukas, who trained the speedy filly Winning Colors when she bested the boys in the 1988 Kentucky Derby, "The drama — the female versus the males — was absolutely super.
"We took a vanilla race (no Triple Crown possibility) and made it into one of the real classics. I think it is going to have great impact."
The roar that greeted Rags to Riches when she returned to the winner's circle pointed to that. "Women were walking around, giving each other a thumbs up, saying, 'Go, go, girl!' " says Nack.
Says Lukas, "
Every female I ran into said, 'How did you like that, boys.' "
